Check in is 6pm and check out is 10am:

Check in is from 6pm on the day you arrive which gives the house keeper time to prepare the house for you. Feel free to park at the house a couple of hours earlier but try not to disturb Carmel as she cleans. Although you won’t have access to the house until 6pm there is lots for you to do! If you arrive early I would recommend a walk down to the Flaggy shore and/or late lunch at Linnane’s!

Check out is by 10am on the day of your departure. Please leave the house clean and tidy; (out of peak season these times can be slightly relaxed if there is no one staying either side of your stay).

Instructions for getting into the house:

******* key code required from Max - Please ask if he hasn’t yet provided ******

On arrival you will see ‘Bayfield House’ engraved on a stone by the entrance at the top of the driveway. Park in the courtyard at the side of Bayfield and this green door into the conservatory is the entrance to the house that we always use (not the yellow front door).

The key for the green door to the house is in a little key safe on the wall to the right of the green door (opposite the yellow garage door).

Max will give you the code to this a few weeks before your stay or please ask him if he has not - ensure you line the numbers up in a straight line. A light will come on at night but use the light on your phone if dark and you can't read the numbers.

A few top tips/FAQs:

  • Bring house slippers or thick socks to wear around the house - tiles can be cold even in the summer.

  • Towels and bed linen are provided – note: the towels are decently sized but if you like an especially generous or beach towel please bring one with you.

  • Babies - see section below.

  • Shopping - Some hand soap and dish washer tabs and obviously loo roll are provided, enough to get you through the first couple of days. See the “Eating and shopping” page for info on where to shop for all the things you need. Kinvara is the most handy for supplies but much cheaper to go to a bigger supermarket in Oranmore or Gort.

  • Coffee - there are plunge type cafetieres in the kitchen.

  • Bayfield has WIFI. Password: 4 8 9 7 2 4 5 1 “. (Plug by bookcase in studio if you need to re boot).

  • Heating - If you need more heat in the house read the instructions in the kitchen by the door. Pressing the “boost” button number 1 will be enough to heat the house and water up. USE SPARINGLY PLEASE! Keeping doors closed will keep heat in the rooms – especially the kitchen. If the house is too warm please turn down the thermostats on the radiators (rather than opening the windows). Note - living is for radiators and living is for towel rails.

  • If going for a walk or to Linnane’s in the evening wear something white/reflective or shine your telephone light so as to be seen by cars.

  • There is a large (non smart) TV which does not have satellite or terrestrial TV. We use an HDMI to plug into it to play films etc so please bring with you.

  • There is a clothes washing machine at the house. Please hang clothes to dry them. Soap etc not provided.

  • There is an open wood/coal BBQ at the back. Coal and wood is available from local petrol stations and super-markets.

  • Irish drink drive regs are fairly strict so assign designated non drinker drivers - or drink at Linnane’s - best Guinness in Ireland!

  • There are a couple of hair dryers at the house as well as an iron.

  • Music system - a basic system in the sitting room - blue-tooth CMT-SBT20 (use BT-AUDIO and press and hold down Function to pair).

  • Water pressure - the house is on a rural supply so if multiple people have showers/baths at the same time pressure will drop, especially upstairs.

Babies:

  • Please ask if you need a cot (or two) and bring your own sheets for these travel type cots. There is a high chair for toddlers.

  • Baby monitors - our favored room for keeping the baby in is the room downstairs adjacent to the living room (The Aughinish Room) for a good monitor signal and you can look through the window to check on sleeping kids.

  • Although a wonderful place for kids Bayfield is not child proofed in any way. Toddlers and children will love the house but please take any necessary precautions.

Waste:

We are happy to say that there is fairly strict recycling in New Quay. What to do is detailed in the kitchen. Many thanks for doing what you can to ensure we don’t get in trouble with the waste collectors! Please put cans, plastic and paper in blue Recycle bin (crush beer cans and plastic bottles to save space in the bin). Glass needs to be dropped off in the glass bins in Kinvara. Put fire ash out in the garden against the wall. Many thanks for your help with this.

When you depart:

  • Ensure cooker is off; doors and windows are closed and locked; fire is out.

  • Please leave the place as tidy and clean as you found it (thanks).

  • Please make a note of any breakages and if you don’t mind leaving payment for whatever your think it would cost and put it through the letterbox in the garage door. (Thanks for this).

  • Please put the key back into the key box.

Thanks again for coming to stay at Bayfield!
