Reviews from people who have stayed at Bayfield

We have just returned from five days in heaven on earth -- Bayfield House in New Quay, Co. Clare. My sisters and I had planned a small family reunion and were looking for a spot where we could spend long hours talking and walking, far away from it all. How lucky we were to find you! From the start, Maxx was a dream to work with, always responding to my questions within the hour. We arrived at the height of an enormous storm and Carmel was there at the door to check to make sure we had made it okay -- and with milk for our tea.

Everything in the house was in perfect order -- they have thought of everything at Bayfield House! Lovely beds, the kitchen is perfectly equipped, they have stocked the house with loads of DVDs for watching and board games. There is nothing fancy, stuffy or precious about Bayfield House -- it is entirely comfortable, warm and inviting, with lovely views and hide-away spots to suit all our personalities. We also appreciated that the owners have positioned notes throughout the house to guide you on your way -- whether you're lighting a fire or wondering which light switch goes to which light. You never had to search around for directions or stand in bewilderment as I have in other houses I have rented. To repeat, they have thought of everything.

And the location is unmatched in Ireland. It is steps from the magical Flaggy Shore so we were able to walk the loop many times, looking out over Galway Bay and talking to the cows, pigs and sheep dogs along the way. Down the road is Linnane's Lobster Bar where we happily ate several meals. You are surrounded by beauty whereever you look. And if you're itching for some "city life," you're within an hour to Galway and Ennis. Again, perfect on so many fronts.

We will return again and again -- in fact, we have already booked again for July. Thank you Maxx and Carmel for taking such good care of us. It was a trip we will never forget.

The perfect holiday for our family from California to celebrate my husband's seventieth birthday. The layout of the house was great for our family of nine. We walked to the beach everyday and had many a great meal at Linnanne's seafront restaurant. The grounds were beautifully kept as was the house. We hope to go back soon.

My parents, two siblings and our families stayed at Bayfield House (11 of us) for a family reunion in Ireland. Owner Max was a pleasure to deal with - he was extremely responsive to emails and offered loads of wonderful recommendations for local activities, entertainment and dining. The house is large and well designed out for a large group. It is clean, comfortable and spacious. The kitchen is well stocked and we used it to cook wonderful meals with local farmer's market finds and seafood. In mid June, it was still quite chilly in the evenings, but there is also a nice BBQ and outdoor seating area with beautiful views - including the odd cow strolling by! The location is a perfect for exploring the nearby Flaggy Shore, The Burren, as well as day trips to Doolin, Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands and Galway. Lots of great outdoor activities in the area. Nearby Kinvara has shopping, traditional music sessions and a farmer's market . Linnane's seafood restaurant just down the road is fantastic - you can literally watch them bring the catch of the day up from the water to the kitchen! Highly recommend Bayfield House for a group gathering in Clare!

The Burren is a spectacular area like no other and Bayfield was absolutely perfect. The kids loved the wide open spaces of the garden (enormous) and exploring the seashore. Linanne's is a great place, fantastic sea food and a gentle 300 yard stroll (or stagger back) along the road by the sea. The house is great for a young family with lots of bathrooms and a big sitting room with a fireplace for the rainy nights. Bayfield is a magical spot looking out across Galway Bay. Would recommend Bayfield to anyone wanting to stay on the west coast of Ireland.

We had a wonderful stay and hope to return some day! I just gave your home a 5-star review on VRBO.

Your home is really lovely. The location is fantastic. And all of my dealings with you were smooth. It was super to be able to rent the Rhodesia House in addition.

Also, we met Carmel and she was very nice.

Thanks very much!

My extended family recently stayed at the Bayfield House for 4 nights. The home is lovely. It is a restored old traditional home with a newer addition. Eleven of us shared the home and we had plenty of room. We especially liked the cozy living room and garden room with views out into the backyard. There is also a great elevated stone table in the corner of the backyard that affords amazing views of the Burren. The home is an easy walk to the Flaggy Shore and you can do a nice loop hike, stopping for homemade ice cream, and visit Martello Tower as well. It is a great location for exploring the Burren, touring the Cliffs of Moher, visiting Galway, etc. or just relaxing and going for walks. We cooked in the well-appointed kitchen and ate at the large table all together. There are even some toys for youngsters available. Max was very quick to respond to any questions we had prior to our trip. I found the entire transaction and stay to be hassle-free. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to return some day.

We had a super fortnight in Ireland (we came to Bayfield after a week in Kerry), and the rain didn't detract from it .... just a couple of nice soft days.  The Aran Islands were fabulous - our first visit there.

Your basket of local info and maps in the kitchen was very useful.  We added some new leaflets from the Burren Perfumery, which we visited and which is a good half day out and a good destination for damp days!

Bayfield is clearly a much-loved family home and redolent of happy times spent there.  All the best for your summer renting season.

We had a wonderful stay at Bayfield house.  What a beautiful and well equipt place!  We loved the beach despite the jellyfish and enjoyed exploring the surrounding area.  The house was perfect and we really appreciated the space it offered - different seating areas, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms.  We even managed to squeeze in 16 for dinner at the table one night!

Thank you for having such a lovely house.

Until next time,

Just to let you know we had a wonderful holiday in your home in Clare and felt it was truly a privilege to stay there.  The area is stunning and the most inspirational landscape I've been to in a while.

The house itself suited us perfectly, we loved the quirky artwork and general décor but I think what made is work so well for us was having the sleeping area completely separate to the living space.

One of the most popular activities that we did was caving with Terry from Backwest Adventures, we found his details in a magazine in the house.

On our last evening as we sat around dinner we asked who would like to come back to Bayfield, the response was a resounding 'YES'!!!!  We've been renting houses in Ireland for a number of years and it surpassed all the others by a long shot.

Thanks again and hopefully we'll be in touch next year,

This house is great. We've been renting holiday homes in Ireland for a number years and this surpassed all the rest by a long shot. The children and adults loved it equally for lots of reasons including, the décor and well stocked cupboards that made the home so comfortable and cooking meals so easy. The artwork. The garden and bbq area. The sleeping and living areas separate and therefore easy for people to sleep/party at times that suited them. The quiet roads that made cycling for the children so safe. The beautiful beach and the wonderful walks along flaggy shore. One activity that was a highlight was caving with Terry from Backwest adventures who comes highly recommended if you're staying here. Overall we had a wonderful week and would definitely recommend it. Enjoy if you have the pleasure of staying here!

Wow! What a house for family and friends! We had a great time.

Got our walks in with no rain and the kids had a ball.

Thank you for all your help with the extra bits and we all want to come back!

We were a family of five from Australia driving around Ireland for the first time. What a find Bayfield was. Max was a delight to deal with. Mike the local manager responded quickly when we needed him. The house itself is comfortable and welcoming. Has been lovingly restored and has absolutely everything u need for your stay. It is well positioned for exploring the mid west coast of this beautiful country, more so than Galway itself, especially if you have a car. You could not do better than Bayfield. Thanks again Max and Beatrice.

Just a short note of thanks for letting us have a grand time at Bayfield House.  The house and surrounding area was everything you said it was.  We all loved going on walks and drives thru the beautiful countryside.

Oh, and Linnanne's was a special surprise and really very good.

Thanks again, Max.  We would love to go back some day.
